#5 Inside & Out - It’s One Space
When people think about renovating a home, they often separate inside and outside.
The house is one project.
The garden, terrace, and pool are another.
In Mallorca, that approach doesn’t hold.
Living here isn’t about separating space.
It’s about how you move between them.
Where you have your morning coffee.
Where you escape the midday heat.
What tree you play backgammon under
Where the house opens up - and where it needs to close down.
Space is defined by how these moments link together.
A shaded terrace can become an outdoor living room.
A poorly positioned opening can make a space unusable for half the year.
Climate shapes more decisions than most expect.
In summer, it’s about managing heat — creating shade, encouraging airflow, reducing reliance on air conditioning.
In winter, it’s about holding warmth — closing spaces down, capturing sunlight, protecting interiors from exposure to the elements.
These aren’t finishing touches.
They determine how the home is lived in.
We think about inside and outside as one continuous space.
Not just visually, but functionally.
It’s considered from the start.
Or it’s never quite resolved.
